What is the Missouri Recovery Support Specialist (MRSS) credential? 

The Missouri Credentialing Board (MCB) created this credential in January 2009.

MRSS credential requirements:

  1. Minimum HS Diploma/GED
  2. 1000 hours of volunteer/work experience
  3. Professional Reference Form
  4. 39 hours of specific training:
  • 6 hours in Co-Occurring
  • 6 hours in Spirituality
  • 6 hours in Family
  • 6 hours in Pharmacology/Medication
  • 6 hours in Motivation/Stages of Change
  • 6 hours in General Recovery
  • 3 hours in Ethics

CPS Credential (Credential Application)

What is the Missouri Certified Peer Specialist credential?

In 2018, the MCB replaced the Missouri Recovery Support Specialist-Peer (MRSS-P) with the Certified Peer Specialist credential, designed specifically for individuals who are themselves in personal recovery.

CPS credential requirements:

  1. Completion the MCB CPS training program and take the CPS online exam.
  2. Complete the CPS application.
  3. Sign the Code of Ethics.
  4. Submit Family Care Safety Registry Worker Registration Form.
  5. Sign the recovery attestation statement.
  6. Sende High School/HSE or College transcripts.

The Missouri Credentialing Board is now conducting all of the training for the CPS. Apply for one of the upcoming week-long Certified Peer Specialist training sessions.
